Job Description

Elkan Inc is looking for a multi-faceted operations assistant/equipment operator for our water facilities team.

The ideal candidate will have basic planning & design experience as well as equipment operator experience for work on water pipelines and pump facilities. This position will include work with construction crews to install and repair underground water pipelines, right-of -way preparation and reclamation, as well as assisting with planning, preparation and coordination of construction projects. The position will include computer work and physically demanding construction general labor while operating specialized vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Assist operations manager in planning and coordination for current and future infrastructure projects
  • Monitor construction teams, overseeing daily operations to include equipment operations
  • Conduct daily operations and maintenance of Elkan's water distribution system
  • Operate excavation, construction, and transport equipment.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Aid operations manager in asset coordination to include construction equipment, parts and consumables inventory.
  • Operate construction equipment (e.g. excavator, dozer, backhoe, compactor, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining, repairing, and expanding water system infrastructure.
  • Operate hand tools to assemble, disassemble and conduct maintenance on waterworks type facilities and fittings
  • Perform routine maintenance of Elkan installed infrastructure to include reservoirs, water pipelines, pump stations and excavation equipment.
  • Assist in the management and transport of equipment and materials.
  • Perform on-site water meter installations and repairs.
  • Respond to written and oral instructions regarding excavations, installations, repairs, meter sets, etc.
  • Respond to call-out and on call duties as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as designated by supervisory personnel. Safely operate heavy equipment such as: skidsteer, backhoe, dozer, compactor
  • Load and unload equipment and materials
  • Daily pre-shift vehicle and equipment inspections; maintain daily log
  • Perform regular maintenance/cleaning on assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Perform other duties as requested by leadership
Working Environment
  • Many work sites are outdoors in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • All worksite safety instructions are written and spoken in English; must be fluent in English
  • Work includes prolonged and repeated: lifting (including overhead, up to 50lbs); standing; climbing; kneeling; reaching and feeling; crouching and crawling
  • Work is performed within the "red zone" of heavy equipment
  • Working safely requires quick/accurate hand-eye coordination and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
Requirements
  • Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
  • Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Education, Skills, Experience Needed
  • Minimum two years of trackhoe operator experience desired
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend written procedures and instruction manuals. Ability to write correspondence via email or other technology-based applications. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to company employees.
  • Skill to operate equipment in close proximity to workers
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Computer Skills: Word Processing, Excel, E-Mail, Internet Software.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
