General Purpose of Job:

Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the Coding Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and working the HIM/Billing Department Discharge Not Billed (DNB), Claim Edits, Denials and Accounts Receivable (AR) daily in order to achieve the defined Department Performance Standards. Performs tasks as assigned including special projects and performance improvement activities.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

* Monitors the discharged not final billed (DNB) daily against Department Performance Standards.

* Works the discharged not final billed (DNB).

* Reviews Medical Necessity Requests.

* Assist Customer Service with Billing Inquiries.

* Assist with Billing Charging Audits.

* Assist Billing Caregivers with Denials.

* Resolve Billing Claim Edits.

* Assist with coding accounts as needed.

* Process patient type requests daily.

* Research on payer guidelines & coverage determinations. Followed by education to appropriate parties.

* Functions as a communication liaison between the Patient Financial Services and Patient Support Services Departments (& servicing departments); facilitates the exchange of required billing information to promote timely, accurate billing.

* Assist with Charge Description Master (CDM) coding reviews and requests.

* Participates in educational workshops and seminars to continually improve coding knowledge and related technical skills.

* Assists with educational presentations.

Job Requirements

General Requirements CCS/RHIT or CPC/COC Certification within 1 (one) year of hire ICD 10 Certification Preferred Work Experience Minimum of 1 year Acute Care Hospital Revenue Cycle Management experience Minimum of 1 year Medicare regulations, including IPPS and OPPS Minimum of 3 years medical Billing Minimum of 1 year experience in ICD10-CM and CPT-4 Coding. Education Associate's Degree in HIM, Billing or related field; OR High School Diploma/GED and minimum 5 years of coding experience Specialized Knowledge and Skills Problem Solving: Ability to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; ability to ask pertinent questions and probe variety of sources for answers; ability to see underlying or hidden problems and patterns; ability to look beyond the obvious and reluctant to be satisfied with the first answer or solution. Ability to make presentations and to facilitate meetings. Learning: Ability to learn, assimilate and apply new coding guidelines and procedural requirements quickly; ability to learn new skills and knowledge; effective at learning and applying new software related tools and procedures; ability to do well in technical coding courses and business seminars. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Access Ability to manage multiple priorities. Preferred - experience with Electronic Health Records Preferred - Clinical Documentation Management Program experience
