General Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that each facet of the operation performs as intended, that the operation is staffed sufficiently with appropriately trained personnel. Related administrative tasks and other assigned duties are also performed. Provides operational support to the Operations Manager.

Major Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Represent airport management, particularly in contacts with federal agencies, airlines, the City, the traveling public and other Airport stakeholders, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of Concourses E and F and the common use facilities and equipment.
  • Supervise, schedule and coordinate the team of Operations Duty Managers,– responsible for the efficient operation and use of Concourses E and F, the DOA common use facilities at the North Terminal Ticketing/Baggage Facility.
  • Respond to aircraft accidents/incidents, security and other emergency situations; direct and coordinate related activities, implement emergency or security plan measures until relieved by proper authority.
  • Collaboratively work with the Operations Manager and Duty Managers to develop operational policies and procedures and recommended methods of implementation.
  • Ensure that all applicable City ordinances, Airport rules and regulations and Company procedures are observed and properly followed during the performance of activities.
  • Train and evaluate the performance Duty Managers.
  • Responsible for interacting with and maintaining positive relationships with DOA representatives and managers, CBP, the TSA, FAA and all partner airlines.
  • Actively participate in planning committees, operational meetings and customer service training projects.
  • Enforce safety rules and other accident prevention measures.
  • In cooperation with the City, implements safety plans and ensures compliance with same.
  • Coordinate operations with outside contractors.
  • Establish work schedules and assign duties; review work for thoroughness and coordinate work with other departments and subcontractors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience, with a minimum of three years in a lead worker of supervisory capacity
  • University degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Effective problem solving and mediation skills.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other TBI employees, airline employees, DOA staff and Customs and Border Protection officers, vendors, subcontractors and other airport stakeholders.

Physical Effort:

While performing the duties of the position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout the course of daily activities. The employee is occasionally required to climb, lift, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to work on a computer, in addition to doing paperwork.

Mental Effort:

Position involves encounters with members at every level of the organization, airline employees, vendors, subcontractors and members of the public, and requires a sense of responsibility to provide a high level of service and accurate information. The position involves stress associated with responding to/solving problems. The position requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment, as well as a creative approach to formulating responses and making recommendations regarding changes in company policy and/or procedures, as required. Operations are dynamic and situations may require immediate attention. This position has high exposure to the public and requires a professional approach and demeanor under all conditions. It also requires a genuine willingness to assist persons with a wide range of requests and needs, including individuals with disabilities.
